I pay attention to gesture, finesse and the harmony of forms.

Making metal warm

Antoine Mathey

Coming from a dual artistic and craft training, my work is a dialogue between paper and metal, then between metal and paper. It’s an encounter between fire and ink to reveal delicacy where it was not expected: iron, known for being robust and cold, reveals itself to be soft and warm.

I seek to compose empty and full spaces so that white spaces stimulate the imagination, so that from what is said and suggested, a warm, moving and living work is born.

The forge workshop

Forging is a hot metal shaping technique. It enriches the aesthetics of a work and brings it to life, like the thick and thin strokes of a drawing. This technique explores the possibilities of shaping to make warm a material that has the reputation of not being so.

Process

It allows the creation of pieces that blend both technical expertise and artistic vision.

Sketches

Drawing allows to visualize and harmonize forms before shaping them.

Shaping

Shaping brings volumes to life, guiding the still malleable material towards its final identity.

Assembly

Assembly binds each element, building the coherence and strength of the piece.

Finishing

Finishing touches are essential to define the final appearance of the piece and ensure its durability over time.
